Daily Announcements – 5/16/2012

  • Do you need community service learning hours? The Sussex Wantage Library needs you this week to help set up the book sale! Hours are available after school all week! Also, Lusscroft Farms needs help this weekend. Training session Thursday night.  Additional help is needed in June. Check your HP email for details. The talent show is next week on May 24th. Tickets will be on sale next week during lunches for $5 or buy them for $6 at the door.
  • The library will be closed after school Friday May 18th.
  • Attention Juniors and Seniors, the last Peer Counseling Meeting of the school year TODAY. Sophomores you too are invited and this could be your first Peer Counseling meeting.
  • Come check it out and see what its all about! It promises to be a great afternoon fun, games, snacks, making new friends and enjoying a last horrah with some old ones.  We will have sign ups for the 8th grade transition picnic and we need lots of help.  We will also have tee shirts available for sale.  The meeting is Today, Wednesday 5/16 from 5:00pm. until 7:30 pm in the east gym. Sports

It’s official! The varsity softball team has won the NJAC American Division outright with their 8-0 victory over Vernon.  Jaime Christensen led the way, going 3-4 with a home run.  Chelsea Eckert hit a home run also!  Michaela O’Hern had a big a day at the plate going 2-4 with a triple.  Ally Frei pitched her second consecutive perfect game with 20 strikeouts!

Daily Announcements – 5/15/2012

  • Congratulations to the High Point Chamber Singers for their outstanding performances in Boston.  On Saturday, the Chamber Singers received high scores and a silver rating at the Worldstrides Heritage Choral Festival and on Sunday, the ensemble sang beautifully in the pavilion room at the JFK Museum and Library.  Bravo!

 

  • The library will be closed after school Friday May 18th.

Sports

  • The girls lacrosse team lost a tough match yesterday to warren hills 10-6.  Sarah Turo did a phenomenal job in goal recording 17 saves.  Scoring for the wildcats include a hat trick by sophomore  Brittany Leuthe and one goal each by  Leah Mendenburu,  defenseman Senior Emily Notaro, and our little freshman Nicole Chirico.  Good job by all.

  • Any Lafayette girls interested in the Miss Lafayette Contest can pick up an application in Guidance or from Mrs. Smith in room 410.  The contest is on June 14 and is open to all  Lafayette girls between the ages of 17 and 21.   ALL contestants receive cash and gifts!
  • If you are interested in running for a class officer you must pick up a petition in the Student Council Office today and submit it as well as your speech to your advisors by the end of the day.

Sports

  • The Boy’s Track and Field team competed at the HWS track meet at Wallkill on Saturday.  Mike Steinbacher, once again had an outstanding performance in the javelin.   He placed third with a throw of 153 feet 4 inches.  Connor McHugh also had a great day placing fourth in the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet 6 inches.  Good luck to the entire team as they prepare for the state sectional meet in two weeks.
  • Congratulations to Dan Mulford for winning his first and second round matches at this weekend’s HWS Tournament in Bridgewater.  By defeating the third singles players at both Wallkill Valley and Voorhees, Dan and all six of his teammates will be playing in the quarterfinals this Saturday.  Great job and good luck this weekend.

  • Lincoln Culinary Institute will be in the cafe annex during all lunch periods on Monday, May 14th.  If you are interested in a career in this type of career, please visit with them!
  • Attention All Students, On Tuesday, May 15th & Wednesday May16th the cafeteria will be closed to all students until 4th period lunch.  You will not be able to get breakfast on both mornings.

Sports

  • Fore! The golf team won it’s second consecutive match this week by defeating Kittatinny 176-194 yesterday afternoon at Hidden Acres Golf Course.  Adam Walton’s 40 and Taryn Anderson’s 38 were the two lowest scores for any golfer from either school.  The team seized the opportunity to celebrate and spent the next few hours burying themselves knee deep in chicken wings and hoagies at a splendid waterfront spot on Culver Lake.  High Point Golf- we play hard and eat well!

  • High Point’s Golfers turned in a strong performance at Tuesday’s Hunterdon-Warren-Sussex Tournament.  Adam Walton, Ryan Fiorellini, Dennis Ulland and Taryn Anderson all contributed as the team finished tied for 4th in Sussex County and in 8th place out of 20 high schools in the three counties combined!  Great job team.
  • Congratulations to the following girls track athletes who won medals at the 1st day of NJAC championships:   Katie Fairchild, 6th place in the 400 with a time of 60.5;  Darby Smith, 3rd in the Javelin with a throw of 101 ft. 8 in.;  and Brittany Papa, 1st place in Pole Vault, with a leap of 9 ft. 9 in.!  As a team, the girls are sitting in 7th place now and are hoping to advance to the top 5 in today’s competition. Good luck,  Lady Cats!

  • Fore!  Congratulations to the golf team on their dramatic 174-175 victory over Sparta yesterday afternoon.  The team held off steady rain and a pesky opponent to pull out the much needed victory. James “The Happiest Man” Alive” Bentson, Ryan “The Godfather” Fiorellini, Dan “Cappadonna” Monk and Taryn “Stop Starin’ at My Monster Drive” Anderson all shot great scores to seal the big win.  Good luck to the team today as they compete in the HWS Tournament.

Congratulations to the varsity softball on the quarter final win in the HWS tournament as they beat Warren Hill 5-0.  They will be advancing to the semi-finals on Saturday against Delaware Valley.  Game time is 4:oo.  Come support the team.

  • Congratulations to the Boys Tennis Team on our 4-1 victory yesterday over Morris Hills.  A clean sweep by the singles trio of Daichi Uchida, Julian Khan, and Dan Mulford  coupled with another victory by our surging First Doubles team of Jared Alosio and Robert Sharpe clinched the win…The team is now 11-2 heading into the final weeks of the season…Great job guys.

  • The National Honor Society will hold its annual blood drive on Monday, May 21 from 8AM until 2PM.  Students who are at least 16 years old are eligible to donate.  If you are interested in participating, please sign up during your lunch period this Wednesday or Thursday.  Any teacher who would like to schedule an appointment should email Jamie Staple.  Thanks for your support.
  • Sussex County Community College will be hosting a Criminal Justice Academy July 2nd through the 6th. Academy students will be introduced to patrol procedures, military drills, and other law enforcement methods. Applicants must have at least completed their sophomore year in High School. Please speak to your guidance counselor or see Tpr. Bambara for more information.
  • To sign up for the AS-VAB Test please see Mrs. Stohr in the Guidance Office.  The Armed Services Vocational Battery test is a test that can help you take steps now toward finding a career that’s right for you. This FREE test will be offered at High Point on Thursday, May 3rd. Sign ups end today. You will receive more information when you sign up.

  • The Girls Track team suffered a close loss to West Morris Central yesterday, despite some great performances!  Taking first for High Point were:  Veronica Wask in the 100 and 200, Carly Zinner in the 800, Yvette Gramignano in the High Jump, Darby Smith in the Javelin, Megan Zummo in the Pole Vault, Brittany Papa in the Triple Jump, the Relay team of Disanza, Gill, Smolen and Zinner, and Sarah Disanza broke the school record in the 1600, running a 5:06.6!
  • Justine Hall had 2 hits, 1 RBI, and a run scored.  Michaela O’Hearn had a run scoring single.  Ally Frei had 15 strikeouts in leading HP to a 3-0 victory over Pope John… HP beat Pope John for the second time this year. Wildcats host Morris Hills today at 4:00
